design
Whether it's a design for a residential, commercial, or recreational property, the approach is the same. It's all design. The only difference is scale and scope of work. Really, it's all about problem solving, and ultimately that's what Landscape Architecture is all about.
elements
Landscape Architects design landscapes and hardscapes. Landscapes are all the natural elements: trees, shrubs, lawn areas, streams, ponds, etc. Hardscapes are the man-made elements: decks, patios, pools, walks, drives, etc. Together, the natural and the man-made are integrated to create a design that responds to the client's requirements and respects the property's unique character.
The Landscape Architect considers not only the budget for the implementation of the design, but also the demands of ongoing maintenance and (especially these days) the water requirements associated with the design. Basically, it's about listening carefully to the client, explaining the options available, and responding with viable solutions.
